Deputies shoot and wound man wielding two knives in Lakewood
Deputies shot and wounded a man in Lakewood on Saturday.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies were sent to a parking lot in the 5900 block of South Street, just near Woodruff Avenue, sometime before 9:45 a.m., according to a statement from the department.
They say that the call for service indicated the the suspect "swing a knife at the victim."
Upon arrival, they located a man who allegedly had two knives, one in each hand, they said.
"The suspect was uncooperative and refused to comply with their commands," the statement said. "The suspect advanced towards deputies and demanded they shoot him. A taser was deployed by ineffective in stopping the suspect's advances."
They claim that he continued to advance towards them, prompted them to open fire.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and taken to a nearby hospital where he is said to be in critical but stable condition at the latest.
No other injuries were reported in the incident.
Deputies say that they recovered two knives at the scene.
