Police swarm La Verne home in search of suspect connected to deadly Diamond Bar shooting

Hours after a man was found dead inside of a crashed car on the side of the road in Diamond Bar, police swarmed a home in La Verne to arrest the alleged shooter.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies began their investigation early Monday after a car crashed on the side of the road at Brea Canyon and Pathfinder roads in Diamond Bar, where a person suffering from a deadly gunshot wound was found inside.

Deputies responded around 6 a.m. Monday to the area for a solo vehicle crash and found the driver, since identified as 26-year-old Nicholas Moody, in the car with gunshot wounds.

Authorities believe the shooting happened at a nearby Park and Ride parking lot, just off the 57 Freeway on Pathfinder. It is believed the driver was in that parking lot when a suspect shot him. In an attempt to get away, the driver went onto the overpass and lost control of his vehicle, crashing into the road's wall.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is describing the suspect as a man who fled in a white SUV.

A portion of Pathfinder Road over the 57 Freeway is closed as the investigation continues.

Later Monday, California Highway Patrol officers swarmed a home in La Verne as they continued to search for the suspect. The situation was ongoing for hours, with SWAT officers also called to the scene.

At some point the suspect was taken into custody. It was unclear how officers got the suspect to surrender.
