Deputies Investigate Suspicious Package Found On Sidewalk In WeHo

WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A suspicious package that shut down a stretch of Sunset Boulevard Friday was determined to be harmless, authorities said.

Shortly after 11 a.m., the Sheriff's Arson/Explosives detailed was sent to the 9000 block of Sunset Boulevard for report of a suspicious package.

Upon their arrival, deputies located a circuit board with a 9-volt battery, wires and coils sticking out of it, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Arson Squad.

Buildings on either side of the location were evacuated before the device was "rendered safe" by a bomb squad robot and taken for forensic testing, sheriff's spokeswoman Deputy Guillermina Saldana said.

A search of the area turned up no additional devices, she said.

Sunset Boulevard, which had been closed between Hammond Street and Doheny Drive, was reopened about 2 p.m.
