Deputies Investigate Deadly Shooting In Compton

COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives Monday investigated the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man in Compton.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, deputies were sent shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Sunday to the 16300 block of South Caress Avenue for reports of a shooting.

Upon their arrival, authorities pronounced an adult African American man dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

A preliminary investigation revealed an unknown suspect opened fire from the sidewalk next to a white sport utility vehicle that was parked alongside the curb.

The victim, who sat in the driver seat of the vehicle, was shot in his upper torso.

No suspect information is available at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
