Police Continue To Investigate Deadly Shooting Near Venice Beach

VENICE (CBSLA.com) — Deputies on Monday announced the arrest of a man in connection with a deadly shooting that took place near Venice Beach.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, a Venice man was taken into custody around 8:10 a.m. on Sunday for his involvement in the murder.

Around 2:10 a.m., officers were sent to The Cadillac Hotel, located between Dudley Avenue and Rose Court, for report of a shooting, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities located a homeless man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials later identified the victim as 26-year-old Jascent Jamal Lee Warren. Warren's friends say he was a musician.

Paramedics transported a man in his 40s to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his leg. Hospital officials said he has since been treated and released.

According to witnesses, the suspect also sustained injuries after a group of homeless men beat him following the shooting.

A preliminary investigation revealed the suspect was with the alleged gunman before the shooting, and made orders to fire at homeless people sleeping in front of the hotel following an argument.

According to police records, the hotel owner, Sris Sinnathamby, was arrested on Sunday for one count of murder. He is being held on $5 million bail.

Authorities have not yet confirmed or denied if Sinnathamby was the suspect they arrested in connection with the deadly shooting.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
