Debate Over Vacation Rentals Heats Up In Laguna Beach

LAGUNA BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Laguna Beach is the latest Southern California city to take a stand against vacation rentals.

The City Council has declared a 45-day moratorium on new short-term rentals, such as Airbnb and HomeAway.

The council unanimously voted this week to put the temporary ban in place after resident complained about excess noise, trash and unruly people.

Other Southland communities have taken similar action. Santa Monica voted to ban rental units for fewer than 30 days. Aliso Viejo has banned short-term rentals in residential zones.
