Deadly Shooting Investigation Underway In Fontana
FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — Police Wednesday searched for multiple gunmen who opened fire in Fontana, subsequently killing a man near a park.
Officers were alerted just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday about a person who had been shot at Bill Martin Park, located in the 7800 block of Juniper Ave, according to the Fontana Police Department.
Upon their arrival, authorities located an 18-year-old man lying on the ground, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Paramedics transported the victim to a hospital where he later died. The victim's identity is being withheld pending family notification.
A preliminary investigation revealed the man was confronted by several suspects in the parking lot of the park.
At one point during the confrontation, the victim ran from the suspects who chased after him and fired several shots.
The suspects fled from the area before officers arrived, police said.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
