Woman Fatally Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver In Van Nuys

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — Police Monday investigated the circumstances surrounding a deadly hit-and-run collision that took place in Van Nuys.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident unfolded around 11:40 p.m. Sunday in the area of Victory Boulevard and Odessa Avenue.

A 57-year-old woman was struck by a 2006 Honda Civic as she crossed the street. At this time, it remains unclear if she was walking within a crosswalk or in the middle of the street.

Paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld pending family notification.

The driver did not stop to render aid to the victim, but he later turned himself into police and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.

Officials are working to determine how fast the driver was traveling when he struck the victim.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
