De La Hoya To Provide Boxing Equipment For 5 Youth Gyms Across LA
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Olympic gold medalist and 10-time world champion boxer Oscar De La Hoya will present new boxing equipment to five different youth gyms across Los Angeles.
The equipment is worth thousands of dollars, and De La Hoya will be on hand to present the equipment to dozens of members of the youth gyms.
This will be De La Hoya's third annual boxing equipment giveaway, which is organized by the Oscar De La Hoya Foundation.
In 1995, De La Hoya started his Foundation to help improve the quality of life for those living in disadvantaged communities.
The Foundation is donating new, state-of-the-art boxing equipment to five gyms in Southern California that serve youth in economically disadvantaged communities plagued by gang and drug violence.
The equipment will help these local gyms to provide youth in their communities with an opportunity to engage in boxing as an after-school program alternative to gang activities.
The gyms receiving equipment from De La Hoya are Grampa's Boxing Gym in Orange County, the Azusa Boxing Gym in Azusa, the Westside Boxing Club in Los Angeles, the Azteca Boxing Club in Bell and the Lugo Fitness Center in Cudahy.
