Daughter Suspected Of Stabbing Mother To Death At Assisted Living Home In Covina
COVINA (CBSLA.com) — A 43-year-old woman remained in custody on Monday after allegedly stabbing her mother to death at an assisted living home in Covina.
Shortly after 5 a.m., officers were sent to an assisted living care facility located in the 800 block of West San Bernardino Road for report of a female not breathing, according to the Covina Police Department.
Upon their arrival, authorities located a 61-year-old woman lying on the floor, suffering from numerous stab wounds.
Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
According to to the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office, Margaret Machiko Yamaguchi, of Covina, has been identified as the victim.
A preliminary investigation revealed the victim's daughter, Athina Sumi Rivera, spent the night in the room.
According to police, Rivera is suspected in the assault.
She is being held on more than $1 million on murder charges at the Covina Police Department, and is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
