Crews Reach 35 Percent Containment Of Ventura Fire

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — Crews in Ventura announced Friday they've contained 35 percent of a 22-acre brush fire and expect to reach full containment by night.

Flames ignited around 3:45 p.m. Thursday in the 5300 block of Ventura Avenue, near the Brooks Institute, the Ventura County Fire Department reported.

The vicinity to the school prompted officials to evacuate 150 students on campus.

Firefighters have set up a command post on Ventura Avenue, between Crick Palm and Canada Larga roads.

They've evacuated the commercial area near the fire, but no residential areas have been affected.

Roads are still open.

Officials say they're investigating what caused the blaze.
