Crews Battling 340-Acre Brusher Near Hungry Valley State Recreation Area In Gorman With 30% Containment

GORMAN (CBSLA) - A brusher in Gorman has burned at least 340 acres so far near the Hungry Valley State Recreation Area, which was evacuated.

The brusher, which was reported around 3:30 p.m., is located in the 36000 block of Quail Lake Road, just north of the first fire and near the Hungry Valley State Recreation Area.

No structures were threatened. LA County Fire said in a tweet that so-called HungryFire is now 30% contained and that forward progress has been stopped.

Air resources were diverted from an earlier, nearby brusher that started from a vehicle fire on the 5 Freeway.

Witnesses told the California Highway Patrol that a white GMC pickup truck was on the right shoulder at 2:41 p.m. and reported a minute later that it was fully engulfed in flames. The truck's occupants were able to exit the vehicle.

The CHP issued a Sigalert at 3:03 p.m. shutting down lanes 3 and 4 of the northbound 5 Freeway at Vista Del Lago.
