Coyote Tracked By Researchers Drowns In Lake At MacArthur Park
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A coyote researchers were tracking to see how the animals live in extremely urbanized areas has drowned in a popular Los Angeles park.
The National Park Service says the coyote drowned last month in the lake at MacArthur Park.
The female, known as C-146, was wearing a radio collar. She'd been tracked since late September.
Park service biologist Justin Brown says the coyote had been tracked along the Los Angeles River, in the northeast and downtown areas of the city and finally in the Westlake neighborhood where she died.
Brown says the coyote may have been chasing a duck or fallen into the lake while trying to drink and couldn't climb the steep concrete walls.
Researchers also found rat poison in her liver, possibly from rodents she ate.
