Corona Teacher Accused Of Sex Crimes Involving 5 Students To Stand Trial

CORONA (CBSLA.com) — A Corona teacher accused of sex crimes involving five underage students has been ordered to stand trial after waiving her right to a preliminary hearing, the Riverside County District Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.

Summer Michelle Hansen, 31, of Corona, was charged in August 2013 with 16 felony counts, including unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, unlawful oral copulation with a minor and sending harmful matter to a minor.

The alleged crimes took place from May 2012 to May 2013 and involved students at Centennial High School in Corona, where Hansen worked as a special education teacher. Authorities say none of the alleged victims were Hansen's students.

Prosecutors say the crimes involving five underage boys took place in Hansen's classroom, a utility room at the school, her vehicle and an victim's home.

She is currently on unpaid leave and her teaching credentials have been suspended, according to the Corona-Norco Unified School District.

Hansen, who is due back in court on March 25, could face up to 13 years in state prison if convicted.
