Coliseum Experience Gets Chaotic For Many Rams Fans

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Fights in the stands, fights in the bathrooms, depleted concession stands and lack of water on a scorching Sunday made for miserable game for some fans.

One father posted a terrifying video on Twitter as he tried to get his son away from a group of men fighting during the Rams' home opener at the Coliseum against the Seattle Seahawks.

A visit with the paramedics wasn't the highlight of the game for Wendy Chang. She was treated for heat exhaustion along with about 160 others when the temperature got into the 90s.

"We saw people sitting on the floor with ice packs on the back of their necks," Chang said. "We saw people on gurneys."

The Coliseum general manager admits his staff had its hands full 91,000 fans in attendance.

Some fans CBS2's Jeff Nguyen talked to said they were frustrated because many of the concession stands simply ran out of water.

"They ran out of water at four different booths we went to and people were very angry," Tracy Smith. "At no point did they run out of beer."

Smith and her husband took their two daughters to the game they say wasn't family friendly.

"There were swear words. There were F bombs," Tracy Smith. "There were unsavory words. There was fighting in the bathroom. We had to call security."

The Rams organization says free water and cups of ice were given out by mid game, but the Smiths say there just weren't enough people working.

"I missed the majority of the third quarter waiting in line for food with other disappointed fans." David Smith said.

Coliseum management says the 93-year-old stadium only has one warehouse, so it's tough to keep the concession stands stocked.
