Classes Canceled At Centennial High School In Corona For Bomb Threat
CORONA (CBSLA.com) — A bomb threat prompted authorities to cancel classes at a Corona high school Tuesday.
The closure was reported by police at 7:15 a.m. after a bomb threat targeted Centennial High School at 1820 Rimpau Avenue in Corona, police officials said.
The cancellation was ordered after a male caller who "stated there was two pipe bombs in a backpack" at the school, according to Corona Police Sgt. Paul Mercado.
"[The caller said] those pipe bombs were gonna detonate some time early this morning," Mercado told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO.
A statement from the Corona-Norco Unified School District said investigators determined that the "school is clear and safe."
Classes were expected to resume Wednesday.
In Rancho Santa Margarita, officials at Santa Margarita Catholic High School were notified at about 9 a.m. about a potential threat on campus through the school's Text-a-Tip program. The Orange County Sheriff's Department's bomb squad searched the campus and determined that the threat was unfounded.
There have been three threats reported against Southern California schools in two days. Graffiti on parent/teacher conference sign-up sheets at Sycamore Elementary School in Claremont indicated a student would shoot up the school. School officials said they did not believe the threat to be credible, but planned to increase security on the campus as a precaution.
