Chris Paul Withdraws From Olympic Consideration

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Los Angeles Clippers star Chris Paul says he is choosing rest and family time over a shot at a third Olympic gold.

Paul says he withdrew his name from consideration for the Rio Olympics because he wanted to spend more time at home this summer. He won gold with Team USA in 2008 and 2012 and had the chance to join Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James as the first men's players to win three Olympic gold medals.

Speaking to reporters at the team's shootaround on Wednesday before they faced Minnesota, Paul said he spoke to friends LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade before making his decision.

He says "I have a right to choose my family every now and then, too."
