Boy Accidentally Shoots Himself With Father's Gun In South LA

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – A child who was playing with his father's handgun in South Los Angeles Friday night suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

The boy shot himself in the left hand and the round then went into his left thigh, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Ed Luna.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies responded to the area of 123rd Street and Denker Avenue around 6:20 p.m.

The boy, who is believed to be about 6 years old, was rushed to a hospital for treatment of his gunshot wounds.

It's unclear how the boy was able to get the gun, Luna said.

The investigation into whether the father would be cited or arrested was still ongoing, according to authorities.
