Man Leads 90-Minute Chase From Whittier To Bakersfield

SOUTH PASADENA (CBSLA.com) – A 30-year-old man who led authorities on a more than 90-minute high-speed chase across Los Angeles County in a gray SUV made it to Bakersfield before being taken into custody early Saturday morning.

Whittier police wanted John Joseph Duarte for reckless driving and the California Highway Patrol took over the chase at 10:45 p.m. Friday on the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway at Fair Oaks Avenue in South Pasadena, said CHP Officer Alex Rubio.

Duarte eventually traveled out of the county at 11:25 p.m. on the northbound 5 Freeway headed toward Bakersfield. A CHP dispatcher said he was taken into custody in the Bakersfield area. No injuries were reported.

Duarte, a resident of Pico Rivera, was arrested at 12:19 a.m. Saturday on suspicion of felony reckless driving and was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail in the Kern County Jail.
