3 wounded, chaos breaks out after spring break party at Dockweiler Beach erupts in gunfire

3 teenagers shot during brawl at Dockweiler Beach

Three teenagers were wounded Friday evening when a massive spring break party erupted in gunfire at Dockweiler Beach in Playa del Rey.

Police were called to the beach at around 8 p.m. after receiving reports that shots were fired within a crowd of between 500 and 1,000 beachgoers attending a "Spring Break Takeover" party that had it's popularity boosted by TikTok.

"It was a lot of kids down there. I've never seen so many people down there," said Devon Barefield, who was RV camping at the beach with his family when the shots were fired.

The large crowd broke out into several small scuffles before the shot's rang out, prompting a massive law enforcement presence to arrive at the scene.

In all, two teenage girls and one boy were hospitalized after suffering gunshot wounds. All are expected to recover.

Officers from several different agencies set up a skirmish line blocking the road near the beach.

In the ensuing chaos, police blocked surrounding streets creating a nightmarish traffic pileup for hours as they allowed beachgoers to leave but no one else through the area.

Some of the hundreds of teens leaving the beach ended up converging in nearby shopping centers, where the chaos followed.

A 7-Eleven convenience store was ransacked, with snacks and drinks stolen from inside the shop. At Lucky's Donuts, more of the same occurred, and when the worker tried to stop them he was allegedly attacked.

In response to the events, Los Angeles City Councilwoman Traci Park issued a statement which said:

"I have been in close communication with LAPD today concerning the incident that took place at Dockweiler Beach. As someone who prioritizes public safety, I am taking this matter very seriously. Going forward, I will continue to collaborate closely with law enforcement and our partners in the city and county to ensure that our community is safe."

No arrests have yet been made.
