Carson tow-yard shooting: Mustang found in South L.A.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were investigating a shooting at the scene of a tow-yard carjacking in Carson Wednesday morning.

L.A. County sheriff's investigators confirm a Ford Mustang driven from a Carson tow yard early Wednesday morning is the same vehicle in which two men were later found shot in South L.A.

Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of shooting at a tow yard on the 2100 block of E. Del Amo Blvd. in Carson at about 5:20 a.m. Wednesday.

A tow-truck driver reportedly shot at a Mustang several times at the tow yard located near Victoria Street and Wilmington Avenue on the Carson/Compton border, according to sheriff's investigators. It was unclear if the Mustang was stolen from the lot.

Officials said gunfire was exchanged during the incident. No one at the tow yard was injured. The Mustang was last seen speeding northbound.

Sheriff's deputies were later sent to the scene of a crashed Mustang in South Los Angeles, where LAPD officers found two men shot at 73rd Street and Avalon Blvd., about 12 miles away, at 5:36 a.m. Los Angeles police officers initially responded to that scene.

Sheriff's officials now confirm the Carson suspect vehicle is the same as the one at the South L.A. scene. The driver of the car found crashed on 73rd Street off Avalon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities on Friday identified the driver as 19-year-old Keyon Hicks.

The passenger was hospitalized but was expected to survive, according to investigators.
