Caregiver, 58, Accused In 2012 Murder Of Her Elderly Mother
RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A caregiver who was charged with taking care of her 85-year-old mother is being charged with the elderly woman's 2012 murder.
Riverside Police Officers responded to the Riverside Community Hospital in December 2012, regarding an elder abuse investigation.
The elderly female victim had been transported to that hospital several weeks before when she was found unresponsive.
Authorities said the victim was admitted to the ICU for septic shock, believed to have resulted from several open and infected wounds.
An autopsy was performed and the cause of death was determined to be related to her severely infected wounds.
It was later learned that the woman's at-home attendant was her daughter. Moreover, investigators also learned that the daughter had specific wound care training but failed to administer treatment to her mother.
The Riverside Police Department located and arrested Linda Maureen Raye, 58, in the city of San Bernardino Thursday.
Raye was charged with murder and elder abuse and was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center with a bail of $1 million.
Officials remind the public to help protect elders and dependent adults by calling your County Adult Protective Services or local law enforcement whenever you become aware of suspected abuse or neglect.
