Car Chase Turns Into Standoff In Paramount

PARAMOUNT (CBSLA) — Police have taken a man into custody after a lengthy standoff that started with a car chase.
The standoff capped off a car chase out of Lakewood into Paramount, where the car stopped at about 8 a.m. At one point deputies shot pepper balls at the car to force the suspect to come out.
Later, a small fire was seen inside the car, and deputies used a fire extinguisher to put it out. A few Bearcat vehicles were also brought out to surround the car.
The suspect surrendered, getting out of the car on his own at about 10:40 a.m., and was taken into custody.
