Camp Pendleton To Host Aerial Firefighting Drill
CAMP PENDLETON (CBSLA.com) — Military and civilian firefighters were set to join forces Thursday for an aerial firefighting exercise at Camp Pendleton.
The exercise will involve aviation and ground units from Camp Pendleton, U.S. Marine and Navy personnel, CAL FIRE crews and the San Diego Sheriff's Department, according to officials.
Navy, Marine Corps and civilian helicopters will be supporting Camp Pendleton and CALFIRE ground teams in establishing a fire line and conducting water bucket operations as part of the training, which culminates with a coordinated effort to extinguish a simulated wildfire, officials said.
In its seventh year, the exercise is being held to certify the pilots in similar firefighting operations and improve cross-agency relations, according to officials.
The exercise is scheduled to be held from 1 p.m. until about 2:30 p.m.
