Cal State San Bernardino Community On Edge Following Student's Disappearance, Recent Attacks On Women

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — Officials continue to search for a missing 22-year-old woman in San Bernardino.

They say the disappearance of Sahray Astina Barber is especially alarming given that there were three attacks last week on women at the Cal State San Bernardino campus, which is across the street from Barber's apartment.

Police Wednesday released a computer-generated image of the suspect in those attacks, who reportedly tried to rape a woman and attempted to abduct another.

Barber's proximity to the campus has officials wondering if her disappearance is a related case.

The graphic design student is enrolled at the Art Institute of California - Inland Empire. She was last seen leaving her apartment around 6 a.m. Monday in the 1500 block of West Northpark for her job at the Art Institute's campus library.

Detectives told CBS2/KCAL9's Tom Wait they've found a number of her belongings, including a laptop, thrown into the bushes around her apartment complex.

The mood on campus has been heavy as news of Barber's disappearance spread Wednesday.

Barber's parents say it's unlike her to go off on her own.

She's described as 5-foot-8-inches tall and 125 pounds. She has long red/brown, straight hair and green eyes, and she was wearing a blue shirt at the time of her disappearance. She works in the school's library.

Anyone with information on Barber's whereabouts is urged to contact the Det. Dan Han at (909) 384-5623 or the San Bernardino Police Department Investigations Bureau at (909) 384-5615.
