Burned Body Found In San Bernardino Dumpster Following Pursuit

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A burned body has been located inside of a dumpster in San Bernardino, police said Friday.

Patrol deputies spotted a number of people trying to burn a dumpster located on 6th Street between Sterling and Lankershim avenues just after 1 a.m., according to the San Bernardino Police Department.

The group fled into an SUV when authorities tried to question their activity. During the chase, the SUV swerved on roadways and freeways as it dragged a trailer, causing sparks to fly.

At one point, the vehicle rammed into a Downey police cruiser. It remains unclear if the officer sustained any injuries.

After about an hour, the driver got out of the vehicle near American Park in Paramount, where he was taken into custody. Two juveniles were also detained, police said.

When police returned to the site of the dumpster fire in San Bernardino, they located a body inside.

Detectives are working to identify the victim, who is believed to be in his forties.

A preliminary investigation revealed the SUV is registered to a Downey address.
