Burglary Suspect Tear-Gassed Out Of Fumigated Home In Paramount

PARAMOUNT (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a sheriff's SWAT team has arrested a burglary suspect who had been hiding in a Paramount home tented for fumigation.

Deputies were called to the 15700 block of Verdura Avenue at about 5 a.m. Wednesday, sheriff's Lt. Tim Milliman said.

A SWAT team was sent to the scene along with hazardous-materials crews, and authorities surrounded the residence. After several hours of negotiation, the SWAT team entered the "large, two-story house," and began searching for the man, a sheriff's sergeant said.

When the suspect, later identified as Antoine Gutierrez, was found hiding in the attic, the SWAT team deployed tear gas into the house and took him into custody without further incident, authorities said.

Gutierrez was taken to Lakewood Station and was booked on suspicion of residential burglary.

Investigators will try to determine if he was involved in other similar crimes, authorities said.
