Burbank Police Confirm Minivan Driver Was Stabbed In Chest Before Fatally Slamming Into Pedestrian
BURBANK (CBSLA.com) — Police in Burbank say that a minivan driver who fatally plowed into a pedestrian on Friday evening had been stabbed prior to the accident.
Police and fire department personnel were dispatched to the area of Olive Avenue and San Fernando Road about 5:40 p.m. Friday following the reports of a man being trapped under a vehicle.
On arrival, first responders found a silver minivan had left the road and traveled onto the sidewalk striking 52-year-old Burbank resident Rodolfo Tan.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The minivan driver was described as a 33-year-old male Glendale resident.
Police said the Glendale man suffered a stab wound to the chest prior to crashing. They said he was speeding on Olive, going west, when he sideswiped a parked car. He then traversed the eastbound lanes of traffic on San Fernando Boulevard where he struck the pedestrian.
The Glendale man is listed in critical condition and has been unable to speak to authorities.
Detectives are speaking with the driver's family to determine how and when he was stabbed.
No arrests have been made.
The investigation is ongoing.
