Buena Park Man Faces Charges In Hit-And-Run Crash That Killed Boy, 7

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A Buena Park man is in custody Monday on hit-and-run charges following a crash that killed a 7-year-old boy in San Bernardino.

Armando Barragan, 21, was arrested moments after the crash that happened at about 10 p.m. Saturday, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

Authorities say Barragan was driving a 2008 GMC Sierra north on Interstate 15, south of State Route 138, when he rear-ended a 1998 Saturn driving in the same direction at a slower speed. The Saturn spun out of control and struck a metal guardrail.

Barragan fled the scene, but was captured a few moments later, police said.

The driver of the Saturn, Kimberly Cannon-Willey, 29, of Victorville, and a 5-year-old girl, who was not identified, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Desert Valley Hospital for treatment.

A 7-year-old boy, who was also not identified, suffered major injuries and was taken to Desert Valley Hospital, where he died, CHP officials said.

Barragan, who also suffered minor injuries, is being held on $250,000 bail. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Tuesday.
