Firefighters fully contain brush fire near Palmdale

Firefighters were battling a brush fire near Palmdale that burned through 272 acres Friday afternoon, authorities said. 

The Deer Fire was first reported near East 35th Street and Avenue Q at 2:17 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. By 9 a.m. the next day, it was 100% contained, state fire officials said.

Within an hour of starting, it rapidly grew to 100 acres. Later in the evening, officials estimated it was 272 acres after initially saying it was 300.

A suspected cause of the fire and other details have not been released.
