Trio of wildfires put stress on California firefighting resources; track their burn areas with interactive maps
Three large wildfires are burning across Southern California, affecting vast areas and leading to evacuations. Fueled by dry conditions and high winds, the fires are threatening homes and other structures in multiple counties, displacing thousands of residents. Together, the Bridge Fire, Line Fire and Airport Fire have scorched tens of thousands of acres, and continue to challenge firefighting efforts.
"These three simultaneous fires are stressing resources for the fire department, " Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone said while his department tried to contain the Bridge Fire. "We're asking for resources from Northern California and adjoining states."
Below are interactive maps showing in real time where the fires are burning, where they are headed, the areas under evacuation orders and air quality.
The Bridge Fire
Burning near Glendora in the San Gabriel Mountains, the Bridge Fire has spread to over 47,904 acres, according to Cal Fire. Crews are contending with difficult terrain as they work to protect homes and contain the fire, which is threatening surrounding communities under mandatory evacuation. Interactive map
The Line Fire
Located in San Bernardino County, the Line Fire has grown rapidly to just under 34,659 acres. With only 14% containment, firefighters are trying to gain control of the blaze as they contend with gusty winds and extremely dry vegetation. Evacuation orders remain in effect for multiple neighborhoods. Interactive map | 3D map with evacuation zones
