Boy, 4, Injured In Dry Ice Explosion At Paramount High School
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A plastic bottle filled with dry ice injured a young boy at a Paramount high school.
Deputies said the 4-year-old was at youth soccer practice Thursday night at Paramount High School, located in the 14700 block of Paramount Boulevard, when someone threw a two-liter bottle over a fence.
The child ran over and picked it up.
An adult yelled for him to put it down, but the boy took off running and the bottle exploded.
The boy was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.
"Evidence recovered at the scene was consistent with a chemical reaction of dry ice," said Deputy Kim Manatt.
Authorities later arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection to the crime. He was charged with deploying a destructive device causing great bodily injury.
Parent Elisa Contreras, who brought her 5-year-old son to Paramount Park, which is adjacent to the high school, said she sees how a little boy would quickly pick up a plastic bottle.
"They're always trying to, you know, look for something to play with," she said.
