Security Increased In Wake Of Threat To Metro's Universal City Station

UNIVERSAL CITY (CBSLA.com) — Security was increased at Metro stations Tuesday after a caller warned of a plan to detonate an explosive device at the Red Line's Universal City Station.

Authorities were warned on Monday of the threat and immediately stepped up security at the station along Lankershim Boulevard across from Universal Studios.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said in remarks reported by the Daily News that the bureau's international partners were made aware of the threat by a male caller in a foreign country who "stated that the attacker would detonate something at the station."

The threat's credibility could not be fully determined before Tuesday, so law enforcement beefed up uniformed and undercover patrols, planned to deploy bomb-sniffing dogs and released information to the public about the threat, officials said. The FBI determined late Tuesday that the threat was not credible.

Still, Mayor Eric Garcetti urged commuters to use the Metro line as usual. He also rode the Red Line himself to reassure commuters.
