Big Rig Crash Busts Several Water Mains In Hacienda Heights

HACIENDA HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — A big rig that crashed into a guardrail on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Hacienda Heights early Friday morning left wood and debris in lanes and busted water mains, authorities said.

The crash happened on the westbound 60 Freeway at Hacienda Boulevard about 1:45 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi said.

The collision left several water mains broken and leaking water down a hillside. The truck also leaked diesel fuel onto the lanes and destroyed about 150 feet of the wooden guardrail, he said.

The accident initially shut down three right lanes of the freeway and a SigAlert was declared at 3:41 a.m. The lane closures were expected to last until at least 7 a.m., Polizzi said, but tow trucks were still working to move the 18-wheeler out of the ditch at that hour.

Three lanes were opened to traffic at 10:15 a.m., but the SigAlert remained in effect for the right lane to allow for crews to repair the guardrail.

No injuries were reported. The crash is under the investigation by the CHP.
