Bicyclist killed in 2 vehicle Lakewood crash involving a school bus

CBS News Los Angeles

A bicyclist was killed early Friday morning in Lakewood after a driver ran a red light, struck a school bus, then hit the cyclist who was stationary, waiting for a light change.

The collision happened around 8:30 a.m. at the East Del Amo and Norwalk boulevards intersection.

The driver was the only person on the school bus when it was hit, and there were no other known injuries, other than the cyclist who was killed, according to the Lakewood Sheriff's Department.

On Saturday, the victim was identified as 65-year-old Tami Hayworth by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

Deputies say that the bus driver was hospitalized for treatment on symptoms of anxiety after the crash happened.

While the investigation remains ongoing, the medical examiner ruled Hayworth's cause of death as an accident.

Investigators say that the bus driver was traveling westbound on Del Amo Boulevard and was in the process of making a left turn onto Norwalk Boulevard when a Honda was allegedly driving through a red light, causing the collision that sent the car veering into the bicyclist.

No further information was provided.
