UCLA has two very distinct writing departments, both which are excellent. The Writer's Program at UCLA's Extension boasts as being the "largest open-enrollment Creative Writing and Screenwriting Program in the Nation." And rightly so. Hundreds of on-site and online courses are offered in a variety of writing genres and certificate programs. Writing competitions and script consultations with professional screenwriters are also available, as well as master classes and weekend seminars with agents and published authors. The instructors here are seasoned professionals as well, actively involved in the literary and entertainment communities. With over 250 instructors in the fields of screenwriting, fiction writing, nonfiction and poetry (plus the large variety of classes offered), this Writer's Program is definitely the most comprehensive in town.
