Even though our fair city has just about the best weather in the nation, if not the world, the winter months still remind Angelenos of other places where snow and cold are the norm. So, to herald the upcoming holidays in craft beer style, take hold of the spirit (pun intended) of the season by way of dynamite winter beers, drunk courtesy the top breweries that the City of Angels has to offer. Consider the following five.

Angel City Brewery
216 Alameda St.
Los Angeles, CA 90012

By its very name, Angel City Brewery knows it has drawing power for Angelenos of every description who want to down the best beer for this time of year. Don't think twice about ordering their White Nite, a golden stout that makes your mouth tingle with a creamy treat that starts and ends with the combination of a soothing chocolate and coffee finish. Then stick around as this brewery, which is tucked away in the iconic John A. Roebling Building, is a great place in the downtown arts district to relax and people watch.

Bonaventure Brewing Co.

Take a break during a frenetic downtown foray to sit out on this popular outlet's fourth floor patio to take in the sun (a pastime others in the nation will envy) accompanied by a distinguished winter brew. Located inside the iconic Bonaventure Hotel, an architectural landmark, and at pool level, the BBC (as this place is lovingly called) has their signature Long Beach Crude at the ready. This hearty craft beer is a cold weather treat. In fact, the roasted finish and complex chocolate malt flavoring is perfect when there is even a slight chill in the air - or not. Bonus: stop by during happy hour and enjoy the Baja tacos which have been creatively conjured up in batter comprised of BBC Marathon Ale.

Long Beach's Beachwood Brewing includes the ever hearty Oatmaster, a typical choice for winter weather in the United Kingdom. Since those blokes know their stuff when the cold comes in, why not try and emulate the taste if not the weather by drinking up this classic? Or, pick their Hef Leppard, a strong German brew with a clever name that is fermented with Bavarian yeast. But don't stop there. Use your craft beer choice to wash down, say, a side of smoked portobello accompanied by Serrano chili aioli and horseradish parsley dip. Talk about the perfect nightcap.
