Jones has Los Angeles' residents boasting that the restaurant's apple pie is better than their mom's. With lofty statements like this, Jones serves up a decadent apple pie that is sizzling in a skillet. The molten, brown sugar, buttery pie has an interior of sliced and sweetened Granny Smith apples and a melt-in-your-mouth crust that is crisped to perfection. Made from a recipe from the owner's great grandmother, who was the original baker of the pies when they opened in l947, the apple pie at The Apple Pan today is about as close to the original as it can be. Never straying from her recipe, the apples in the pie are always Northern Spy or Pippins and the pies are baked fresh every day. Made daily from local artisan bakers, pies here are made with fresh Granny Smith apples, which are peeled and sliced wafer thin and then tossed with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Those thin slices are then piled 4" high into a sweet dough crust and finished with a crumble streusel topping and lemon glaze.
