Bear captured after roaming the streets in Chatsworth

Bear climbs trees in Chatsworth neighborhood

Foothill communities in Southern California are used to seeing bears, but people in Chatsworth were surprised to spot one hanging around an industrial area of town.

The tagged bear was spotted around 11 p.m. on Monday and the Los Angeles Police Department was tracking it before it hid behind some buildings.

In video, the bear could be seen jumping fences, roaming industrial areas and hiding up in a tree.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife was also notified and they are tracking the situation.

"We're aware of the bear in Chatsworth, and we're responding with our human-wildlife conflict staff. We understand the curiosity and interest of the public, but the crowds and media presence tend to delay the animal's movement," said Tim Daly, California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The department said the female bear is around 3 to 5 years old. Crews headed to the scene to attempt to capture the bear and bring her back to her habitat.

The bear was spotting hanging out high up in a tree for a couple of hours before officials reportedly tranquilized the animal around 11 a.m. to safely get her down.

No injuries were reported.

The same bear was also spotted and captured in Claremont in May and collared before being released in the Angeles National Forest. The animal then made her way to Malibu and had not been seen until being spotted in Chatsworth on Monday night.
