Baldwin Park police arrest student for making violent threats against his own high school

Student arrested after making threats towards Sierra Vista High School

Baldwin Park police arrested a high school student for making several threats of violence against his own school.

According to the Baldwin Park Police Department, the student made his first threat of explosive devices at the school on May 25, after classes had ended for the day. Authorities responded to the school with dogs trained to find explosives but no devices were found.

The suspect made more threats to Sierra Vista High School staff on Tuesday and with help from the FBI, detectives were able to identify the student.

Police later seized evidence from his home and arrested the student. Despite being a juvenile, authorities and school officials plan to press charges.

As a precaution, Parents were asked to check their student's backpacks before they left for school Wednesday, before bags and backpacks of each student were planned for inspection as they arrived on campus.

BPPD officers would also have an increased presence on school grounds through the remainder of the year, as students take final exams this week.

Several year-end events were canceled for SVHS students, a blow to seniors departing the school in less than a weeks' time.

"It made me feel hurt," said Christopher Regaldo, who graduates from the high school this year. "All of the seniors were coming to 'Senior Sunset' and it was canceled because of that bomb threat."

Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana was also affected by school threats Tuesday, announcing that campus would be closed for the remainder of the week and students returned to online learning following what authorities believed to be a "credible threat."
