Authorities probe fatality near railroad tracks in Vernon

An investigation was underway in the city of Vernon after a man was found dead near railroad tracks. 

Officers with the Vernon Police Department responded to a "suspicious circumstances" call in the 4900 block of Charter Avenue around 1:06 a.m. Sunday and located the male victim. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) said in a news release that its homicide investigators will investigate the death.
