Man Wounded In Shooting On Metro Bus In South LA; Suspects At Large
SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Two suspects remain on the loose Monday afternoon following a shooting on board a Metro bus in South Los Angeles, authorities said.
Shortly after noon, authorities say they responded to Western Avenue for report of a shooting on a bus, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Upon their arrival, deputies located a 30-year-old man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his back sustained while on board a Metro bus.
That person was taken to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition with non life-threatening wounds.
Deshawn Guiden is a South Los Angeles resident who works security at a grocery store nearby where the shooting took place.
"They need to cut down on the killing and gang violence. It's useless and it doesn't make sense," Guiden said.
Both suspects are still at large and motive for the shooting remains unknown.
Police said they have no confirmation that the incident was gang-related.
Two suspects fled the scene but authorities hope surveillance video will help identify them.
South Los Angeles has seen a sharp rise in homicides in recent months, but Los Angeles police say that they are making adjustments in order to curb the violence.
From January through August, there have been 189 murders citywide, compared to 173 last year in that span.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the bus shooting or the two suspects to come forward.
