Authorities ID Woman's Remains Found In Car Outside West Covina Supermarket

WEST COVINA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities identified Wednesday a woman whose decomposed body was found in the backseat of a car in a West Covina supermarket parking lot last week.

Coroner's officials say the remains found in a Stater Bros. parking lot at 365 N. Azusa Avenue on Aug. 25 were identified as belonging to Samira Girma, a 36-year-old Irvine resident.

The remains were discovered after someone reported a foul odor coming from a gray, four-door Volkswagen, according to officials.

An Uber sticker on the vehicle led detectives to initially contact the ride-hailing service, West Covina police spokesman Rudy Lopez said last week.

Police now say the death was not related to "any Uber related incident."

An autopsy was conducted, but the cause of death was deferred pending the results of toxicological tests, coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said.

While an investigation is ongoing, detectives have ruled out the death as a possible homicide and say there were no signs of foul play.
