2 Suspects On Loose After Attempted Robbery At Glendale Galleria

GLENDALE (CBSLA) — A security guard Saturday fired shots at suspects in an attempted robbery at a jewelry store in the Glendale Galleria, authorities said.

No one was injured in the 2:47 p.m. shooting at Bhindi Jewelers in the mall at 2148 Galleria Way, Glendale Police Sgt. Dan Suttles said.

CBSLA's Jeff Nguyen reports that two suspects are on the run after the attempted smash-and-grab robbery. Glendale Police Department arrested the third suspect in connection with the robbery.

Police got a call of shots fired and officers who are assigned to the mall went scrambling along with the fire department.

They say three men went into the store with sledge hammers and smashed some display cases to steal Rolex watches.

An armed security guard fired three shots but no one was hurt.

One of the men surrendered to the guard while the other two ran away.

People were were in the mall scattered.

"We saw people running. We were like 'put the gates down. Put all the customers in the back.' We had no idea what was going on. And from inside the stock room you hear 'active shooting. Active shooting.' So we were back there for a while but we had no idea what was going on," said mall employee Adriana Rodriguez.

Police say there is security video of the attempted robbery but they are not ready to release it just yet.

People were initially told to stay away from the scene of the investigation but the mall was eventually reopened for business.
