Attempted Murder Suspect Takes His Newborn Baby On Car Chase Into Colton
COLTON (CBSLA) — A newborn baby boy is back with its mother Monday after being taken on a police pursuit into Colton by his father, a suspect in a double shooting that happened the day before.
The chase started at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday after 37-year-old Trinidad Macias was spotted getting into a white Nissan Altima in the 61000 block of Honeysuckle Lane in San Bernardino. Macias refused to pull over, touching off the pursuit, according to Fontana police.
Police say the pursuit got onto the freeway, where the California Highway Patrol took over. The chase lasted more than an hour, going from the 210, the 215, the 15 and 10 freeways. During the chase, Macias communicated with his family and the CHP, claiming to have several handguns, a rifle and his baby in the car with him, Fontana police said. At one point, a handgun was thrown out of the car and onto the freeway, where it was recovered by officers.
The chase finally ended in Colton, where Macias was arrested without further incident. The baby was not hurt and released to his mother.
Two other men --28-year-old Michael Santoscoy and 23-year-old Christopher Santoscoy, both of Colton -- were also been arrested in connection with the shooting, which happened Saturday night in a home in the 15900 block of Tyrol Drive in Fontana. Two men were shot in the legs and torso, but are in stable condition.
Michael Santoscoy and Macias were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, Macias also facing charges of child cruelty and felony evading. Both are being held on $100,000 bail. Christopher Santoscoy faces a charge of conspiracy to commit a felony.
