Second atmospheric rivers makes its way to the Los Angeles area bringing more rain
The second atmospheric river in a pair of storms will bring more rain and cooler temperatures to the Los Angeles area.
The National Weather Service said the region will continue to have drizzle or light rain through the morning as the tail end of the first storm continues to pass through. The peak of the second storm will begin in the afternoon and last until 6 a.m. Friday.
Los Angeles should receive between .50 and 1 inches of rain while the mountains and hills receive between 1 and 2 inches. The atmospheric river will bring beneficial rain with minor impacts.
"It doesn't look like it's going to cause any of the flooding or debris flow," KCAL News Meteorologist Amber Lee said.
The NWS said some potential rain impacts include minor road flooding, enhanced flows in streams and creeks and rockslides on canyon roads. There is a "very low risk" of reaching burn scar debris flow rain rate thresholds, forecasters said.
The first set of rain underperformed from what forecasters had predicted. Local officials took precautionary steps near the burn scar areas to prevent mudslides and debris flow. The risk still remains as the land is unstable and residents are returning to their homes.
Rain totals from the first rainstorm:
Santa Monica: .42 inches
- LAX Airport: .34 inches
- Hollywood: .26 inches
- Downtown: .24 inches
- Northridge: .64 inches
- Calabasas: .40 inches
- Castaic: .30 inches
- Oxnard: .59 inches
- Ventura: .48 inches
The rain will taper off through Friday and conditions will dry out heading into the weekend. Temperatures should increase a bit throughout the region.
