Asst. Sheriff Todd Rodgers Enlists 'Reno 911' Cast In Campaign To Replace Baca

LAKEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Lakewood Vice Mayor and Los Angeles County Asst. Sheriff Todd Rodgers, who announced his bid to replace Sheriff Lee Baca earlier this year, is enlisting the stars of a popular TV show to boost his campaign.

According to the Long Beach Press-Telegram, the cast of "Reno 911" will reunite to film TV spots for Rogers on Thursday.

The popular Comedy Central show was filmed at the Carson's sheriff's station, where Rogers served as captain from 2003 to 2009.

During Rodgers' tenure, crime rates dropped 15 percent, and in 2005, the area experienced its lowest crime rate, according to his Web site.

Other candidates for Los Angeles County Sheriff include: Gardena Mayor and Undersheriff Paul Tanaka; Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell; retired Sheriff's Cmdr. Robert Olmsted; LAPD Detective Lou Vince; retired Sheriff's Lt. Patrick Gomez, and Asst. Sheriff Jim Hellmond.

Baca announced his retirement in January and retired later that month. Orange County Undersheriff John Scott has since been serving as interim sheriff for the department.

The election will take place in June.
