Assault with deadly weapon suspect arrested after hours-long barricade inside Whittier home

Assault suspect arrested following lengthy standoff in Whittier

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies are engaged in a standoff with an alleged assault with a deadly weapon suspect in Whittier.

At around 1:30 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a possible assault that had happened in the area, at a home in the 11000 block of Inez Street.

They learned that the suspect allegedly pointed a gun at two people who were nearby the home, and ran back inside, which is when the barricade began.

At one point, deputies called LASD's Special Enforcement Bureau to assist with the situation after hours worth of negotiation proved unsuccessful.

The department says that "force was used" to make an arrest, but did not provide further information.

Los Angeles County Fire Department was called to the scene at around 4:15 p.m. by deputies, but they have been on standby since.

No injuries have been reported.
