Arson investigation underway after man dies in East Hollywood fire

A man died in a fire that erupted at a two-story duplex in East Hollywood Monday. 

According to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart, firefighters responded shortly after 5:35 p.m. to the building in the 900 block of North Serrano Avenue near Romaine Street and found smoke coming from a unit on the second floor.

Firefighters said a man in his 60s with serious burn injuries was taken to the hospital where he died. His name has not been released. 

The LAFD arson team is investigating the cause of the fire.
