Arrest Warrant Issued For Off-Duty LAPD Officer In Pomona Shooting Death

POMONA (CBSLA.com) — Police issued an arrest warrant Monday for an off-duty LAPD officer in the murder of a 23-year-old man.

According to the Pomona Police Department, officers received multiple 911 calls Friday reporting gunshots in the area of Third Street and Main Street.

When authorities arrived to the scene, they located a male victim later identified as Salome Rodriguez Jr. of Ontario suffering from gunshot wounds to his lower torso.

Paramedics transported Rodriguez to USC Medical Center, where was later pronounced dead.

During a preliminary investigation, officers learned Rodriguez Jr. and Henry Solis, 27, of Pomona, were involved in a fight before the shooting.

Officers said Solis should be considered armed and dangerous as he is aware that police are searching for him.

Solis is a probationary LAPD officer who was off duty when the shooting occurred. He has failed to return to work since the murder took place, police explained.

Detectives described him as a Hispanic man that stands 5-foot-9 tall and weighs 185 pounds.

His 2013 Volkswagen Jetta was located on Sunday, however, authorities believe he may be operating a different vehicle.

According to detectives, Solis may be driving a brown or tan 1992 Ford pick-up truck, with a California license plate that reads: 4J79703.

It is a felony to harbor, conceal or aid a fugitive in an effort to avoid or escape arrest, authorities explained.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Solis is urged to immediately contact the Pomona Police Department at (909) 620-2085.
